Personal name servers
As part of our service we can set up name servers with names based on your domain name (ns1/ns2.yourdomain.com) .
When you signed up for your account we provided you with two name servers. These are based on special domain names which do not mention Hostroute.com. There is no need to set up personal name servers and we would advise against it unless you are experienced in web hosting.
There is no charge for this.
Note: If you have arranged personal name servers with us WebHost Manager will still show our name server names when you set up a new account. Please ignore this as it does not affect the functionality of your accounts.
To set up personal name servers:
- Contact your domain name registrar and change the name servers for your domain name to the two name servers we provided you with when you signed up. This is essential, because if your domain is not on our name servers we cannot set up personal name servers for you!
-
Go to our help desk.
-
Enter a support ticket under the category Linux Hosting Issues asking us to set up personal name servers and quoting the domain name of your reseller/multi domain account.
- We will set up the personal name servers and send you the host names (usually ns1/ns2.yourdomain.com) and IP addresses within 24 hours.
- We will also attempt to register your name servers with the following registries: .com/.net/.org/.biz/.info/.us/.cn/.vc
- If you have a .com/.net/.org/.biz/.info domain name which is not registered through Hostroute/Nameroute then we will not be able to register your name servers. You will need to contact your domain registrar and ask them to register your new name servers with the registry. They should not charge for this service. If you are unsure who your registrar is you can check this using our whois look up service.
